New Zealand Embassy

New Zealand Embassy

Washington D.C.
Overview

The New Zealand Embassy retained DNC Architects, Inc. (Architect of Record) to undertake a service of evaluations and studies with the goal of a phased renovation of the existing Embassy building and site in 2002. Evaluations included building and life safety codes, handicap, building MP&E systems and optimization planning.

Since the original renovation was completed, security standards have changed requiring modifications to the previously completed work. This phase included architectural “hardening” & security upgrades to the main entrance lobby. Enhancements included new perimeter fencing, automated auto and pedestrian gates, vehicle barricades, landscape features and detection systems.

A separate portion of the project consisted of the phased renovation of the Embassy (while remaining occupied) & included all offices, public areas, conference rooms, Ambassadors suite, secure storage & food service facilities. The renovation not only included architectural improvements and finishes, but mechanical, electric and plumbing systems upgrades, as well as security enhancements and furnishings.
